Have Brown Suits Become The Ultimate Staple For The Modern Dandy?

The latest tailoring trend for men might be as simple as being one with the autumn leaves.

Sometimes, black suits can be a bit too formal, and going navy or grey feels like you’re swimming in a pool of normies. Trying any other colours can be pretty risky, too and suddenly, even going out feels like a gamble. But fear not – enter the brown suit, the modern menswear fanatic’s foolproof choice.

The proof is in the pudding, with tastemakers like Jacob Elordi rocking up to the Los Angeles premiere of Frankenstein in a breathtaking, double-breasted Bottega Veneta number in a shade that leans towards maroon. Callum Turner went big and flowy on the trousers for his deep brown Louis Vuitton suit moment at the Eternity screening in New York. Colman Domingo decided to one-up everyone and have every shade of brown in his BOSS look at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year with a calf hair coat enveloping layers of his neckerchief and silk shirt. Tyler, the Creator isn’t one to shy away from his love of brown either, with a vintage-inspired brown suit always in his rotation – whether it be the full co-ord or just the blazer/trouser.

These looks echo what we saw in the latest round of Spring/Summer 2026 menswear shows, with brown tailoring prevalent in a plethora of runways. Michael Rider’s Celine debut saw mismatched brown suit looks with wide-set shoulders and buoyantly flowy trousers. Lemaire doubled down on this notion with oversized chocolatey suiting that fit like it was taken straight out of your dad’s wardrobe (in the best way possible). Auralee pulled through with a rather dressed down variation, opting to tie the coffee-coloured blazer around the waist to show off a floral undershirt.

So, what can we take away from recent celebrity sightings and runway examples? For starters, the suits wear casual. They fit roomy, the shoulders are bigger and there’s not a tie in sight. Straying away from the trident of black, grey and navy suits, brown can instantly be seen as the dressed down, easygoing option. It’s extremely autumn-centric, too, giving you a cosy look that works perfectly for these Q3 press runs.

So whether you want to pop a couple buttons to show some skin like Elordi, cover it all up with a neckerchief like Domingo or even dress it down even more with a T-shirt like Tyler, the Creator, the possibilities are endless. One thing’s for sure, though: the brown suit is in.
